ABOUT OUR AUTHORS

Mark Allen Mynhier served 14 years in the U.S. Air Force. Initially during the Cold War in classified operations, followed by Combat Camera assignments documenting Bosnia and the Gulf War. Those years taught him that strategy, precision, and discipline are not theories - they are survival.
He then spent over twenty years with the Los Angeles Police Department, sixteen of them as Forensic Supervisor, documenting murders, serial killings, cold cases, and crimes against children. He chaired national forensic photography committees (SWGIT and SWGDE) that established standards still used by police and courts nationwide. The work was never about recognition; it was about building systems that hold when everything else fails.
For twenty-four years he trained in martial arts mostly under schools led by Master Ed Parker, the man who brought karate to the West. Mark never chased rank - only integrity, discipline, and knowledge. He remains an eternal student.
The weight of what he witnessed left him with PTSD. He retired from LAPD in 2018 and relocated to South Carolina to be near family, where he has built a tight circle of loyal friends who live with purpose.
Through Broken Thread Publishing, Mark creates practical tools for people who see life as a campaign, not a motivational poster. His work speaks to those who have been tested - or know they will be - offering battle-tested frameworks for strategic thinking, mental resilience, and refusing to quit when the mission demands everything.

Alex Maine

New Age Author & Cultural Explorer

Alex Maine is the pen name for Mark Mynhier, whose last name is apparently too complicated for most people to remember or pronounce correctly. (It's MIN-ee-er, for the record. But sure, call him whatever you want—he's heard it all.)

Alex writes books for people who are tired of the same old sanitized, feel-good nonsense. His True Crime Word Search series covers 559 fascinating crimes across 10 volumes, spanning from Ancient Rome to the 1980s—because history's most notorious criminals make for much better puzzles than "inspiring words" or "relaxing beach scenes." With a background in forensics (including work on the Grim Sleeper case), Alex brings authenticity and investigative insight to his true crime content without the Hollywood embellishment.

His Irreverent Series takes a sarcastic, no-BS approach to topics that are usually drowning in mystical fluff and overly earnest devotion. From zodiac signs to runes, UFOs to possibly even Sasquatch (because why not?), this series is for people who enjoy a healthy dose of skepticism with their spirituality and entertainment with their education. Think of it as the antidote to the "love and light" crowd.

Alex publishes through Broken Thread Publishing LLC and believes in entertainment that doesn't insult your intelligence. His books are for adults who appreciate dark humor, historical depth, and the occasional eye roll at life's absurdities. When he's not writing, Alex is probably researching his next crime series, arguing about the Oxford comma, or wondering why people pay $29.99 for a book that tells them Mercury is in retrograde (again).

Find Alex Maine's books on Amazon - where sarcasm meets education, and where puzzles actually have some bite.

The OG DM

Veteran Dungeon Master & RPG Author

OG DM is the pen name of Mark Mynhier, who has been rolling dice since the late 1970s—back when D&D came in a white box and you colored your own dice with crayons. His gaming journey began in college dorms in Florida and took him around the world, including legendary campaigns with the Lakenheath Crew during his military service in England, where all-weekend sessions became the stuff of gaming legend.

Through decades of adventures alongside players like Alan Vincent, Drew Alexander, Mike Stage, and countless other imaginative souls, Mark learned that the best games honor the hobby's roots while embracing new possibilities. He carries forward the TSR-era philosophy: practical adventures, meaningful consequences, and the direct DM-to-DM communication style that made the goldenrod-covered classics essential reading.

OG DM adventures are designed for the realities of game store play—adventures that fit actual time slots, respect busy DMs, and deliver the kind of straightforward, usable content the hobby was built on. No proprietary settings. No filler. Just solid adventures with that vintage aesthetic and modern playability.

Whether you remember coloring your dice or you're discovering the hobby today, OG DM products are built for one thing: getting you back to the table with confidence.
